Krypton Cancelled at SYFY, Lobo Spin-Off No Longer in Development

Deadline reports that the world of DC on SYFY just got much smaller. The two season drama series Krypton was cancelled by the cable network, and the previously announced Lobo series has also been scrapped.

The outlet reports that the producers of Krypton are in talks with “other outlets” for the series to potentially live on elsewhere. It would make the most sense for the series to move to the DC Universe app or perhaps Warnermedia’s HBO Max, though where it may end up remains to be seen.

SYFY’s reason for cancellation is clear after looking at the series’ ratings however, which declined drastically in season 2 after a stellar debut in 2018.

Set two generations before the destruction of the legendary Man of Steel’s home planet, Krypton followed Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe, The Halcyon) — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed — as he fights to redeem his family’s honor and save his beloved world from chaos. The Seg-El name is both a nod to Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel and a reference to John Byrne’s 1980s miniseries, “The World of Krypton.” Cameron Cuffe is set to play Seg-El along with Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod.

Krypton also starred Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre, Ian McElhinney, and Shaun Sipos.

Based on DC characters, Krypton was executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of SteelBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeThe Dark Knight trilogy). and Cameron Welsh (Ash vs Evil Dead).
